Colourful and rather fascinating old street scene acquired from an Austrian art dealer.
Obviously an homage to the German Expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, this is similar to one of his Street Scenes series, originally created between 1913-15.
The main subjects are two men and two women, wearing an assortment of clothing styles and some rather odd hats. Behind them are several other people who appear to be hurriedly going about their daily business, one of them pushing a cart.
Signed indistinctly in the bottom right corner, undated but probably from around the 1920’s. Size, including the old frame, is around 86 X 65 cm.
