Silver and Plique-à-Jour Pendant Necklace*

Item Description

Unusual and rather striking silver and plique-à-jour enamelled Egyptian revival pendant in the form of a stylised winged insect, incorporating a pair of lotus blossoms, one on each side of the tail.

A fine oval opal forms the head and below are two moonstone drops.

The pendant, which is of a convex shape, hangs on two short lengths of chain from a central red enamelled supender, below which dangles a long oval moonstone cabochon.

As a final detail, two seed pearls are set on each side, at the base of the lotus blossoms.

Probably German and early 1900’s, of 800 silver and very similar to the pendant illustrated on page 63 of the book ‘Egyptian Revival Jewelry & Design’ by Dale Reeves Nicholls.
