Goldscheider Bust by Montenave
Item Description
This is one of the most recognisable and iconic of the many Art Nouveau terracotta busts produced by Goldscheider.
Originally sculpted by the artist Montenave, and finished in shades of gold and brown, it is further decorated with opals and chrysoprase cabochons.
Titled in the Dechant/ Goldscheider reference book as "Girl with Curly Hair and Hat", this somewhat simple description rather underplays the elegance and carefully considered proportions of this fine sculpture.
Dating from circa 1902 and numbered verso 2592/337/2. In good, if somewhat aged condition (we have not given her a clean, preferring to leave her as she is) and with a height of 50 cm. The width across the shoulders is around 39 cm.
Lit: Dechant/Goldscheider p. 363 – also Pinhas p. 55 (larger model illustrated).
