Pewter Brooch with Ruskin Roundel
Item Description
English Arts & Crafts brooch with a square outline turned on to one corner.
The pewter face has a randomly textured finish and wraps around a brass back plate. Set in the centre is a large Ruskin ceramic roundel.
Whilst these are not uncommon, this particular one caught our eye in view of the patterning and colours, looking as it does remarkably like a stylised tree bending in the wind. Whether or not this was intentional has to be doubtful as Ruskin ceramics were not usually pictorial, but the resemblance to a tree is undeniable and very effective.
There is some crazing, as is so often the case, to the surface but it is still very sound.
Measuring 5.5 X 5.5 cms.
