Bronze Trinket Box
Item Description
Beautifully made small bronze trinket box with a stylised design on the lid depicting a young girl on a balcony waving to her lover as he sails away in the moonlight. Sitting in the stern of his little boat, he is turning to wave back to her.
Certainly Austrian and quite possibly by Hagenauer. Both the figures and the boat are very much in that style although there are no marks to be found.
The sides and ends of the box are patinated in a dark, almost black shade and repeat the pattern of sea and sky that is shown on the lid.
The interior of the box has a fruitwood lining which we believe to be peartree, and a good quality hinge fitting ensures that the lid closes snugly, as it should.
This delightful little box dates from the 1920's amd measures 9.75 cm by 8.25 cm overall, with a height of a little under 4 cm.
