Wartime Workers

Item Description

Original wartime watercolour by Harry Riley (1895-1966) of a Land Girl and three key workers.

An atmospheric picture that illustrates the way paintings can provide powerful propaganda tools when a clever artist captures the mood and spirit of the times.

All four are smiling confidently and imparting the feeling that their efforts are assisting the nation to succeed in the war effort.

A typically well constructed composition from an artist whose work in the 1940's and 50's for British Rail and the BOAC airline is well documented.
