Suffragette Necklace*
Item Description
Pretty suffragette necklace in gold coloured metal with two green enamelled ovals, a central facetted glass stone, and a tear-drop shaped synthetic pearl dropper – the three colours of green, white and violet which are sometimes said to be an acronym for the message ‘Give Women Votes’. In fact the purple/violet shade signified dignity, green purity and white hope.
The main body of the pendant with delicately shaped petals in front of fine intertwining ropework.
Dating from circa 1910-15, the necklace is still on its original chain and has a full length of 48 cm.
