Pair of Orientalists
Item Description
Fine looking pair of small size Orientalist polychrome painted terracotta busts showing superb detail, numbered but otherwise unmarked.
Raised on contoured plinths atop a two tier socle, they appear to be of noble lineage, dressed as they are in fine clothes, he with a strong, rather stern look and she an obvious natural beauty.
Late 1800’s and unsigned but almost certainly either Austrian or possibly German in origin and quite probably by Johann Maresch (1821-1914) whose style of work this closely resemebles.
Numbered 868 and 869 on the underside and approximately 26 cm high with the female bust just a touch taller than the male.
