Oil on Canvas by Guglielmo Ciardi*
Framed oil on canvas of a balcony scene with a view of a tranquil bay in the background together with a hillside village close to the edge of the shore.
Scarlet coloured flowers grow among the balcony's balustrade supports and are climbing upwards on the trunk of a small tree on the left of the picture, the whole scene looking very Mediterranean.
Painted by the Italian artist Guglielmo Ciardi who was born in Venice in 1842, studied at the Venice academy of Fine Arts and went on to teach there for a time. He regularly exhibited at the academy and also at the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti.
Ciardi was awarded a gold medal at the San Francisco Exhibition in 1915 and died in 1917.
Signed at bottom right, the overall size is 66.5 by 77.5 cm with the visible image measuring aproximately 48 X 59.5 cm.
