French Art Nouveau Silver Brooch*
French silver brooch with a classic Art Nouveau design of a young maiden amongst flowers of iris.
Basically oval but with a shaped outline formed from curving strappy leaves and with a light, openwork look, showing the head and shoulders of the elegant young woman as she leans forward to enjoy the scent of the flowers.
Beautifully made with fine detail to every part of the silverwork, and a completely charming subject.
Circa 1900-05, and showing a French silver mark but no maker’s mark, although it is known to be by Savard of Paris.
The width of the brooch is 3.75 cm.
Lit: Art Nouveau Jewellery from Pforzheim by Fritz Falk, p. 106 – where the same design is shown as a belt buckle.
