Art Nouveau Gold & Plique-à-Jour Brooch by Murrle Bennett
Delightful and very rarely seen brooch crafted in 18 ct. gold by Murrle Bennett & Co., dating from circa 1900.
Approximately circular in outline and open in style, with the slightly expanded top section divided into a number of little cells that are plique-à-jour enamelled in a shade of green.
A diamond is set just above the centre and two pearls are suspended into the open area, one on each side.
The brooch is completed with a third pearl which hangs centrally on a short length of chain, forming the drop.
An unusual arrowhead clasp is fitted and the MBCo maker’s mark together with 18 ct. is clearly stamped verso.
Measuring 2.5 cm wide by 3.cm in height.
N.B. On the only occasion in the past that we’ve come across a similar brooch to this, it was priced at £4500 – exactly twice the amount we are asking.
