Art Nouveau Butterfly Girl Necklace*
French Art Nouveau silver and plique-à-jour butterfly girl necklace, possibly inspired by the famous dancer and choreographer of the times, Loie Fuller.
Depicting a young woman in a diaphanous dress, with her arms outstretched supporting colourful butterfly wings. These are decorated with plique-à-jour enamelling in a shade of light grey-blue with four dark blue spots for accent.
The main element is suspended on two short lengths of chain from a small butterfly suspender to which is attached the old original silver necklace chain. This is further embellished with an additional small butterfly on each side.
The whole effect is absolutely delightful and so very Art Nouveau.
Just below 4.5 cm wide with the chain approximately 54 cm long.
