Art Nouveau Bronze Sculptress by Villanis
A rarely seen original old edition bronze by Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914) of an Art Nouveau maiden sculpting a bust which lies at her feet. This is an imaginatively stylised portrayal which certainly succeeds to capture the eye.
The young lady is holding a hammer and chisel and her very feminine posture as she is about to strike the chisel is quite wonderful.
With a copper coloured patina and greeny gold detail on the clothing, there are one or two minor marks to the finish but this is not surprising as it dates to circa 1895.
Mounted on a detachable four-legged swivel type base.
Signed E. Villanis on the shoulder of the bust and approximately 74 cm in height.
