WMF Silver Plated Bowl
Item Description
Art Nouveau silver-plated bowl from WMF, listed in thier catalogue of the day as a cake basket.
Oval in shape, with a typically Art Nouveau design of sinuous leaves, stems and flowers in bud, together with a hovering dragonfly towards one edge. The twin handles are formed from the sweeping curves of the plantlife.
Standing on four ball-shaped feet and in very good condition, with a width from handle to handle of 40 cm.
Similar sized and shaped bowls to this one were also described as bread baskets. A smaller version with the same design as this is illustrated on page 339 of the WMF book.
Stamped on the back of one handle with the usual WMF marks.
