Two Nouveau Maidens
Item Description
A pair of very Art Nouveau terracotta vases, each with a young maiden wearing a long flowing gown, peeping around the edge, while holding on to the side and the rim. They are further decorated with flowers, sinuous stems and insects.
Between 35 and 36 cm in height and nicely painted in muted shades of green and brown.
Numbered 370 and 371, marked France and with impressed stamp ‘marque depose’. There is also what looks to be an indistinct signature at the base of one of the vases which we think is probably Schoop who designed for Bernhard Bloch. The same design was also produced in a glazed earthenware and these were usually signed Schoop with the BB mark also showing.
