Sycamore Box with Repoussé Decor
Box with a hinged lid, made from solid sycamore and decorated all round with applied repoussé decorated panels in white metal, featuring stylised stems and leaves against a hammered background.
A blue green cabochon that appears to be of glass is set in the centre of the front panel and a ceramic roundel sits in the lid towards the front edge.
The interior is wood lined with a removable central divider.
Possibly French in origin, bearing as it does certain features of the work of L’Artisan Pratique, and probably a box for cigarettes or cheroots back in the day but ideal as a trinket box for small keepsakes.
Nicely proportioned and a useful overall size at 20 cm wide by 13 wide and 7.5 high.
