Art Nouveau Silver and Horn Moustache Comb

Item Description

A rare little object that, although not exactly jewellery, we’ve placed in this category as it’s such a little gem.

Probably originally intended as a gent’s moustache and/or beard and/or eyebrow comb, this is a delightful piece of original Art Nouveau silverwork dating from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.

The fine-toothed horn comb folds out from within its beautifully decorated silver case to be immediately ready for use.

Hallmarked at Birmingham although we’ve been unable to find an actual date letter for the year, and also impressed with the maker’s mark of the silversmith T H Hazlewood & Co who were located in Barr Street, Birmingham. This particular mark was used by the company between the years 1892 and 1904.

The folded length is just a little over 7 cms. and opened out it measures 13.5 cms.
