Arts & Crafts Silver Tea Service
Arts & Crafts three piece silver tea service made by Williams of Birmingham and hallmarked for the year 1904.
Showing a light randomly hammered finish on all three components, together with applied medieval style decoration in the form of four linked cross shapes.
Each piece rises off an oval foot, flaring outwards before narrowing slightly towards the gently overhanging rim which has an extravagantly shaped outline.
The wicker binding on the teapot handle is still in very good order and the little handle on the lid reflects the same shape, whereas the handles on the milk jug and sugar bowl, although in the same style, are rather more ornately shaped.
This is a delightful set, in such good condition that we wonder if it has ever been used.
The silversmiths Williams (Birmingham) Ltd were in operation between 1902 and 1929, so this a fairly early example of their superb craftsmanship.
