Arts & Crafts Pendant with Large Saphiret*
Silver Arts & Crafts pendant in the form of a pair of long leaves curving around the top half of a large oval saphiret stone. The stems of the leaves intertwine at the top and further wirework connects to the bale.
Below hangs a circular set saphiret drop, suspended on a twisted link matching the bale.
The main stone has been set en cabochon but is faceted on the back.
An extremely eye-catching pendant measuring 7.5 cm long from the top of the bale to the bottom of the drop. The necklace chain has a length of 60 cm.
N.B. The use of saphirets in Arts & Crafts jewellery was not common, but the crafstmen and women who were dedicated followers of that movement tended to use whatever stones they could get hold of. The unknown maker of this fine pendant was fortunate indeed to acquire this particular splendid piece of Gablonz bijouterie glass.
