French Art Nouveau ‘Gallic Rooster’ Gold Brooch

French high carat gold and plique-à-jour brooch with a scene of a cockerel crowing as the sun rises behind.
Known in France as ‘Le Coq Gaulois’ this much loved character is the unofficial French national symbol.
Oval but with a shaped outline following the edges of the finely detailed and very Art Nouveau strappy leaves as they swirl round the brooch, framing the image,
Beautiful enamelling with some colour highlights picked out on the rooster and the surrounding landscape, but it is the sunrise which really captures ones attention, the stunning colours being an absolute joy to behold.
Just below 3.5 cm wide, with no maker’s mark apparent, but a rare find and in lovely condition.
