Jugendstil Pendant by Levinger

Item Description

Jugendstil silver and enamel pendant from the Pforzheim company of Levinger and Bissinger, the design attributed to Otto Prutscher.

In the form of a stylised winged insect, its wings enamelled in pastel pearlised tints shading from very pale pink through creamy yellow to just a suggestion of green.

Set with an oval mother-of-pearl plaque in the centre, a pair of circular opals above, and finished with an oval opal drop.

Marked Depose and 900 on the reverse with no maker's mark apparent, but known to be by Levinger and very similar in execution to a couple of designs illustrated on page 234 of the Fritz Falk book 'Art Nouveau Jewellery from Pforzheim'.

The pendant is a little over 5 cm in length from the top of the two short lengths of chain to the bottom of the drop.  The necklace chain is 52 cm long.

N.B. There is a tiny dot of enamel loss centrally along the top edge of the left hand wing, as can be seen in our enlarged photo.
