French Art Nouveau Mirror Pendant

Item Description

Quite beautiful early French Art Nouveau silver gilt and enamel pendant that slides open to reveal a mirror.

Featuring a fine portrait of a noble young woman, the pendant has an irregular outline bordered by long strappy green enamelled leaves which frame sinuous silver gilt stems, from which little bell shaped flowers are suspended over the outer edges of the portrait.

Each of the flowers is detailed with tiny seed pearls, which are also set beneath the pair of leaves at the base, together with two little rubies.

The dedicated bale continues the theme of bell flowers and green leaves and a fine baroque pearl, caged in gold covered wire, forms the drop.

Suspended on an unusual necklace chain comprising linked short rods in matching green enamel, which is fittedwith a barrel type clasp.

The mirror plate, as with many of these old mirror pendants, is showing signs of age as can be seen in our photograph, but we consider that this is simply part of the history of this unique piece.

Late 1800's and just a fraction over 8.5 cm in length, including the bale and drop.  The necklace chain is approximately 64 cm in length.
