Rarely found enamelled and hand decorated jug with hinged lid from Gebruder Bing of Nuremberg, Germany.
Basically white in colour, with a stylish geometric pattern in the Secessionist style on both sides and, in smaller scale, on the lid.
The brothers Bing established their company in 1863 making kitchen utensils and other items. From the 1880's they branched out into toy making and eventually the company became the biggest manufacturer of toys in the world.
This little jug dates from the earlier period in their history and has survived remarkably well. One would expect that the enamel might have suffered more loss than it has, and with just a small spot on the spout (see photo), the overall condition of this piece is excellent.
Marked GBN on the underside for Gebrüder Bing, Nürnberg, and numbered. The height is approximately 20 cm.
