Beautifully detailed French enamel on copper picture dating from the late 1800's titled 'Rebecca at the Well'.
The pale flesh tones of the subjects, contrasting strongly with the vibrant colours and gold detail on their clothing, all against a dark forest setting, make for a striking image.
The unknown artist has based his composition on Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's work 'Rebecca and Eliezer' which was painted in 1650 and hangs in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain - see last photo.
In excellent condition and still in its original and ornate wooden frame, showing just one or two unsurprising minor scuffs. We've not attempted to remove the plaque from its frame although doing so may reveal a signature or mark.
Measuring 24.5 X 30 cm including the frame, with the enamelled panel being 17.5 X 23 cm.
