Tall Art Nouveau patinated bronze figure titled "The Haymaker" by the noted French sculptor Alfred Boucher (1850-1934).
Beautifully modelled, the young peasant woman has one hand on her hip and is leaning on her pitch-fork, resting awhile from her task in the field. She wears a headscarf tied in a bow beneath her chin and clogs on her feet.
On an integral base and in lovely condition with just a tiny scuff to the patina on a small area of the upper part of her raised arm.
Signed A. Boucher and with the foundry seal of Siot-Decauville, Paris. Dating from circa 1900 and a touch over 77 cm high to the top of her fork.
Boucher was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1887 and won a Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1900.
