'Liesse' by Pierre Le Faguays

Item Description

French Art Deco patinated metal sculpture 'Liesse' which translates as Jubilation.

The young nude female is seen in mid dance, balancing on her raised left foot and looking back over her shoulder as she cradles a posy of flowers in one arm.  In her opposite hand she is holding a single flower.

A beautifully balanced composition and a classic Art Deco image.

Finished in a shade of olive green with very effective dappled darker shading and showing gold coloured highlights on the dancer's hair and the flowers.

The ornate base is raised on four metal feet and consists of a green onyx upper level above a slightly larger tapered and contoured portoro marble base, decorated with roses inset into the front face.

Designed by Pierre Le Faguays and signed with his pseudonym Fairal (also spelled Fayral).  Cast at the Le Verrier foundry in Paris and dating from circa 1930.

The overall height is approximately 31 cm.

In good condition with just a single chip to the upper edge of the front of the Portoro marble.
