Realistically modelled retriever from the noted French animalier Clovis-Edmond Masson.
This was probably originally sculpted in the early 1900's and produced in bronze at that time. During the Art Deco era, certain carefully selected animal sculptures that had first seen the light of day some 20 - 30 years earlier were recast in art metal and mounted on marble in the popular Deco way.
The keen and purposeful posture of this dog has been perfectly captured with this piece which displays well from any angle.
Dating from around 1930, with the artists name etched into the portoro marble which is approximately 42 cm in length.
