Art Deco Egyptian Lady Lamp

Item Description

Patinated bronze table lamp depicting a jewelled Egyptian woman wearing just a long skirt and sandals.

She is holding above her head what appears to be a long rectangular lidded casket with Egyptian heiroglyphics written on both sides. From this rises the lamp holder which in turn supports the tapering velvet-like orange and gold shade.

Decorated with coloured glass jewels in her headdress, necklace and the front flap of her skirt, she typifies the fascination with all things Egyptian during the Art Deco era.

The figure is signed on the socle W. Kral and mounted on a circular slightly domed base which is raised on four feet and has a scalloped edge all round.

The somewhat unusual lampshade is lined inside with a gold coloured material and the light from the lamp does not shine through it. There is however an arched cut-out at the front and light spreads forward through this opening as well as downward.

Dating from circa late 1920's and probably of Austrian or German origin.

Overall height to the top of the lampshade is around 63 cm.  The figure itself is 30 cm high, including the base, and the height to the top of the bulb holder is 48 cm.  Width of the shade is 38 cm and the depth 24.5 cm.

Rewired profesionally to meet current standards.
