Glass Vases & Bowls

It is perhaps easy to forget that glass was very much a luxury item until well into Victorian times. Drinkers in inns and taverns still had their ale poured into pewter tankards before the development of pressed glass towards the middle of the 19th. century. The decorative glass we specialize in, from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, is mostly continental. In France, around the town of Nancy, several wonderful artists in glass worked throughout these times, some of the most notable being Emile Gallé, René Lalique and the Daum brothers who are still so well-known and collected today. Others such as Paul Nicolas of d’Argental, Muller Frères and Auguste Légras also produced beautiful cameo and enamelled glass deserving a place in any collection. From Austria came Loetz with its fantastic iridescence, and the Bohemian countries had firms such as Pallme-König and Josef Rindskopf whose pieces can be quite distinctive. Across the ocean the Americans had Louis Comfort Tiffany whose more sought-after pieces now command huge prices. We offer a wide selection of glass items from many of these producers and others, all of which is very collectable, with some pieces very reasonably priced. We hope you find our offering of glass items interesting and inspiring.
