Gamekeeper and Dogs by Michel Bétourné

Item Description

Framed Limoges enamel on copper depicting a gamekeeper and his dogs pausing for a moment at the edge of the forest near Fontainebleau.

Signed by the master enameller Michel Bétourné, the work being after an original oil painting by the French artist Constant Troyon (1810-1865) which hangs in the Musée D'Orsay in Paris.

Beautifully enamelled in vivid colours, the main subjects being the four alert hounds rather than the gamekeeper, whose face is completely hidden from view.

Dating from circa 1960 and measuring approximately 41 X 33 cm overall. The visible enamel image measures a fraction below 27 cm high by 19 wide.

Troyon was a highly regarded painter of animals, with dogs in particular being his main forté and we show an image of his original painting in our final photo.
