Art Nouveau Clock by Charles Korschann

Item Description

Very special Art Nouveau gilded and patinated bronze clock by Charles Korschann (1872-1943).

Depicting a Nouveau maiden bathing while standing at the top of three steps beneath a fountain. She is partially covering the source of the flow from the mouth of Medusa above, but water is pouring down her body and away down the steps.

Ivy climbs the pillars on either side and the case is further decorated with leaves and two snail shells on top of the alcove.

The circular enamelled dial with its clear numerals is picked out with a chain of tiny flowers just inside the hour numbers.

It has been dated as 'towards 1897' by a reputable French auction house. There is a faint signature verso and traces of the founders mark for Louchet.

A litttle of the gilding has unsurprisingly been lost over the years but otherwise the clock is in excellent condition.  The movement is original and has been completely overhauled and serviced.  A full wind lasts for approximately six days.

Height is 31 cm.
