Pair of Hounds by JE Masson

Item Description

Fabulous Art Deco pair of hounds by the French animalier Jules-Edmond Masson (born 1871).

Mounted on a naturalistic rocky base, the male dog is standing high and looking keenly alert whilst his mate alongside him takes a drink from a small pool.

This is a quite delightful study showing the dominant male dog protectively guarding the female as she takes her refreshment.

Dating from the mid to late 1920's and very well cast in the superior Le Verrier art metal at their Paris foundry.

With an affixed plaque naming both the artist and the founder, and also noting that this sculpture won a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Francais.

There is a little inevitable wear to the green patination but this imposing piece is otherwise in excellent condition.

Fairly sizable at approximately 58 cm wide by 21 deep and around 54.5 cm high.
