John Pearson Galleon Bowl

Item Description

Copper bowl or small charger hand made by John Pearson and showing the year 1898.

Circular, with a raised edge and depicting a splendidly stylised galleon complete with a winged serpent on the mainsail.  Five shields adorn the side of the ship and the crew can be seen on the upper deck.

Sailing on an undulating sea with a school of ten fish all swimming in the same direction just below the hull.

Strong repoussé work that is typically Pearson, all set against a hammered background.

Signed and dated verso and also showing the circled pattern number 2391.

The diameter is approximately 32 cm and the height 4.5 cm.

A small area of discolouration is showing at the top of the mast which is probably the result of the hanger being attached to the back at some stage.
